NBA Announces Plan to Reopen the Season
That’s right, the NBA is set to resume on July 31st. It was announced yesterday that 13 teams from the western conference, and 9 teams from the eastern conference will finish out a modified season in Orlando. The teams that were selected included the top 8 from each conference, as well as teams that were 6 games back or fewer from the 8th seed in their respective conferences. Each team will play 8 regular season games before the start of the playoffs, and there will be a play in tournament if the 9 seed(s) finish within 4 games of the 8 seeds. This play in tournament will be double elimination for the 8 seeds and single elimination for the 9 seeds, giving the edge to the team who finishes the regular season in a better position. This should make for exciting basketball, especially in the western conference where there is currently a three-way tie for 9th place, and 0.5 games behind that three-way tie are the San Antonio Spurs. This shortened regular season and possible play in tournament will certainly heighten the intensity of all the games that will be played, and for NBA fans around the world it couldn’t come soon enough.
